A new partnership formed between Travelers and MSDSonline means the insurer’s policyholders will have 24/7 access to critical information. A new partnership formed between Travelers and MSDSonline means the insurer’s policyholders will have 24/7 access to critical information.

And that could lead to safer workplaces.

MSDSonline provides on-demand Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) management services. Under the new arrangement, all Travelers’ policyholders will have free access to MSDSonline’s database of 3.5 million MSDS documents through the Risk Control Web site. These documents explain the proper procedure for handling certain hazardous substances and what to do in case of an accident involving one of these substances.

“This new partnership offers our customers immediate access to materials that can help them prevent losses and potentially save lives,” explained Marty Henry, vice president of Risk Control for Travelers. “Our policyholders can now benefit by quickly and efficiently searching, locating, and printing MSDS documents that could help mitigate risks in the work environment.”

In addition to the free access to MSDS documents, Travelers’ policyholders can take advantage of reduced prices on MSDSonline’s suite of MSDS management, deployment, and reporting tools. These management and compliance products allow companies to build, organize, and maintain a customized electronic MSDS library.

Jon Kennett, MSDSonline’s director of business development, pointed out that more than 30 million workers are exposed to hazardous chemicals in the workplace, according to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OHSA). In fact, Hazard Communication was listed as OHSA’s number two violation in 2007.

“Having an efficient MSDS management tool with timely accessibility is critical to reducing unnecessary workplace accidents,” Kennett concluded.
