It’s not the only state to mandate standardized e-billing transactions for the medical insurance industry. But there’s an interesting twist to the law passed in Minnesota that is getting the attention of carriers. It’s not the only state to mandate standardized e-billing transactions for the medical insurance industry. But there’s an interesting twist to the law passed in Minnesota that is getting the attention of carriers.

In an attempt to streamline the payment process between insurance carriers and health care providers, the state’s Department of Health is requiring that by January 2009, all providers and group purchasers must exchange health care administrative transactions with insurance payers in standard electronic formats. This law affects anyone who bills for or purchases health care services—including the medical component of automobile insurance.

With the deadline looming, the Mitchell Medical division of Mitchell International, Inc.—known for providing products and services to the automotive claims industry—is stepping up to help all parties involved fulfill this new requirement in Minnesota. Thanks to its ongoing partnership with Jopari Solutions, Inc., a leader in the Workers’ Compensation eBilling field, Mitchell Medical will now include provider e-billing services as part of its suite of bill review and processing programs. This will allow insurers to complete electronic transactions for eligibility requests, medical bill submissions, remittance advice, and associated EFT payments.

“Mitchell’s customers can depend on us to help them overcome the challenge of meeting ever-changing regulatory compliance dictates,” said Tom McCarthy, executive vice president of Mitchell International. “We have committed substantial resources to ensure our e-billing offering addresses all the technology and business needs of automobile insurers. Partnering with Jopari to provide seamless technology integration gives Mitchell customers a complete, comprehensive electronic medical billing solution that painlessly integrates with their current medical billing systems.”
