Northwestern Mutual is celebrating a silver anniversary, of sorts.
FORTUNE magazine ranked the insurer as "America's Most Admired" in the life/health insurance industry in its 2008 annual survey. This marks the 25th year Northwestern Mutual has earned this recognition. Furthermore, it is the only company to have led its industry every year that it has been included in the survey.
"We are enormously proud to be recognized by our peers and industry experts in this way," said Edward J. Zore, president and CEO of Northwestern Mutual. "It's a powerful testimonial to the job we're doing-providing financial security to our clients."
Companies included in the survey are given a "corporate reputation" score. Northwestern Mutual received an overall score of 7.36 based on eight key attributes. The carrier was voted first in seven of the key attributes:
- quality of management
- quality of products and services
- long-term investment
- financial soundness
- employee talent
- social responsibility
- use of corporate assets
The other top five "Most Admired" companies ranked in the life/health insurance category are New York Life, Massachusetts Mutual Life, Principal Financial, and Prudential Financial.
Since 1982, FORTUNE has published a list of America's Most Admired Companies. This year's report card was graded by more than 10,000 business executives and analysts representing some 60 industries who rate others in their industry on eight key attributes.
The "America's Most Admired" industry rankings are featured in the March 17th issue of FORTUNE.
