Brothers Create "Perfect Tool" for Finding Right Medicare Part D Plan

If a pharmacist and a nurse have a hard time figuring out Medicare Part D plans, imagine what it's like for the average citizen. Edward Boles and his brother, Phillip, are the founders of Medicaresaver.com, a new Web site that gives prescription drug consultation and a customized, exhaustive ranking of Medicare Part D plans.

The idea for their site came when the brothers tried to find a plan for their mom. "It took us hours to calculate the price of a small selection of plans," said Edward, a pharmacist.

Out of their frustration was born Medicaresaver.com, which helps seniors by searching for less expensive medications, communicating these recommendations to their doctor, showing a complete breakdown of pricing for available plans, and assisting in enrollment.

"At first we wanted to give everyone a way to accurately compare all the plans based on their specific medications, but the concept kept growing until it turned into something amazing," said Phillip, a registered nurse.

A growing number of seniors are going online to make important medical decisions or find key information. More than half a million Part D beneficiaries enrolled online for 2008, an increase of nearly 50 percent over 2007.

Still, there's room for improvement. Many seniors are searching the Web for answers and coming up empty-handed. That's because many sites are complicated and cluttered with marketing gimmicks, and very few offer an upfront comparison of all plans. Seniors complain that even the federal government's Medicare site is difficult to read and comprehend. It's easy to see why the typical enrollee takes more than eight hours to choose and why so many get stuck with the wrong coverage.

The Boles brothers created Medicaresaver.com with these seniors in mind. It has large text, is simple to use, and features a step-by-step video guide. The entire process takes 15 minutes, and users leave knowing they have the lowest cost medications and Part D plan they can get.

Seniors are not the only beneficiaries of Medicaresaver.com. Insurance companies, doctors, and pharmacists also benefit because their customers are using the most cost- effective drugs available.

"As a pharmacist, it's the perfect tool for me," Edward said. "My time behind the counter is limited, but with Medicaresaver.com I can make sure my customers find the lowest price drugs and insurance plans in a short amount of time."
