Almost two in five employers don’t offer health insurance, according to research from the National Conference of State Legislatures. And the rate is worse for small businesses: fewer than 50 percent of employers with three to nine employees offer health coverage.
To address this shortfall, Digital Insurance, Inc., a benefits broker that specializes in serving small businesses, is expanding its product line to include “limited medical and wellness” offerings. The addition of these plans enhances Digital’s INcompassSM suite of services.
Adam Bruckman, president and CEO of Digital, says the absence of health insurance offerings among small business is a matter of finding room for the cost in the company’s budget.
“We believe small businesses would offer a benefits package to valuable employees if they could do so within their budget,” Bruckman said. “Limited medical benefit plans— being used by more than a million Americans—may be an affordable option.”
Limited medical and wellness benefit plans are attracting the interest of small businesses and employers with low-wage, part-time, or contract workers. These products are designed for employees who may not have health insurance, whose coverage is being reduced, or who can no longer afford to pay their share of the premiums for family coverage. With costs of $100, $150, and $200 per employee per month, the plans help people gain access to basic medical care such as doctor visits, prescription drugs and wellness solutions.
By forming a partnership with Cost Containment Group (CCG) and gaining access to its limited medical products, Digital now offers this low-cost alternative to traditional health care plans. |
