Since its inception, John Hancock Retirement Plan Services has been committed to developing and maintaining strong working relationships with third party administrators (TPAs), says George Revoir, senior voice president of John Hancock RPS.

TPAs had been asking for compliance instruction, information on new products and services, and training programs to help new associates earn industry designations and provide CE credits for those with existing designations. John Hancock RPS responded with “Forum Coach,” a new Web-based training program for 401(k) TPAs.

“The mission of the TPA Services Team is to build strong relationships with these critical business partners,” Revoir said. “We strive to really listen to our TPAs, find out how we can help them succeed in their businesses, and then provide valuable services to assist them.”

Forum Coach, Revoir added, is a continuation of those services.

Forum Coach is made up of two components: E-Tutor and John Hancock Product & Services.

John Hancock recruited the services of Janice Wegesin, a nationally known author and speaker, to create and host a series of compliance Webcast training sessions. Wegesin is the recipient of both the ASPPA (American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries) Educator’s Award and the NIPA (National Institute of Pension Administrators) Lifetime Achievement Award.

“As an industry leader, [Wegesin] provides new associates with the most up-to-date information when preparing for their exams, and valuable insight for industry veterans, who are acquiring CE credits to maintain their designations,” explained Ann Slotwinski, assistant vice president, John Hancock RPS.

The content of the training sessions is based on the curriculum for the ASPPA and NIPA entry level exams. Topics range from the basics of understanding retirement plan history to how to effectively administer these plans.

In addition to the E-Tutor sessions, John Hancock will use the Web to facilitate training that focuses on providing TPAs with details on the company’s products and services, as well as how to set up a new plan and integrate pension administration systems with John Hancock.
