What’s the best way to handle a grease fire in the kitchen?
If your answer involves water, you’re wrong.
The best way to extinguish a grease fire is to turn off the stovetop’s burner and smother flames by covering the pan with a lid.
This handy tip and more like it are found on the new Supporting Families Web page, a joint venture from Liberty Mutual Insurance and Dream Dinners. The page is full of auto, home, and personal safety tips and resources.
Supporting Families is part of the Dream Dinners site, which can help busy moms and dads with menu planning and purchases at Dream Dinners meal-assembly stores.
“Parents have so many responsibilities, and we want to make things simpler,” said Greg Gordon, Liberty Mutual vice president of Consumer Marketing. “So at the same Dream Dinners site where they are planning their meals, they can find time-saving tools designed to keep their families safe and secure in their homes and cars.”
Supporting Families delivers monthly safety tips, ranging from cooking safety to teen driving to identity theft protection. For example, this month’s cooking tips can help prevent cooking fires and accidents, the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries.
“Families are our number-one priority,” said Stephanie Allen, co-founder of Dream Dinners. “Working with Liberty Mutual to provide home and car safety resources is a natural extension of our mission to help families maintain healthy lives.”
Visitors to Supporting Families also can sign up for a weekly e-mail safety reminder, and can use the “conversation starter,” a thought-provoking question for parents to engage the family at dinner time. The site also provides one-click access to Be Fire Smart, Liberty Mutual’s online fire safety and education destination that features a fire-safety film hosted by actress Marcia Gay Harden and teaching tools for parents, educators, and firefighters.
