The Hanover Improves Benefits for Auto and Homeowners Policyholders

The changes made for clients and agents alike by the Hanover Insurance Group are just the beginning, its personal lines president is promising.

The Hanover has created Ultimate Service and Total Household Rewards, free-of-charge upgrades to those with auto and homeowners policies with the Hanover. With these additions, eligible customers could save hundreds of dollars in the event of a loss thanks to better coverage for towing, labor, and rental cars, as well as waived deductibles and guaranteed policy renewals for homeowners.

This sounds good for clients, but the Hanover is making these changes with agents in mind too.

The company believes Ultimate Service and Total Household Rewards will help agent partners offer more value-added products and services for their customers, thereby improving customer retention.

“These consumer-focused enhancements to our auto and homeowners policies illustrate the value the Hanover brings to its agent partners, and this is just the beginning,” said Jim Hyatt, personal lines president of the Hanover. “Furthermore, the enhancements add to a long list of advantages we have built into our value proposition for agents and consumers, making it easier for our agent partners to grow their businesses in an intensely competitive market.”

The Ultimate Service coverage adds towing, labor, and rental benefits to an insured’s automobile policy. (Insureds must have towing and labor or transportation expense coverage on their policy before the free coverage extension becomes effective.) With the added benefits, the company will:

  • Pay towing and labor costs when an insured’s keys, including electronic transponders for “keyless” vehicles, are lost, broken, or accidentally locked in their automobile.
  • Pay reasonable towing cost when the vehicle is towed to the nearest Hanover Express Claims repair shop following a covered disablement, regardless of the insured’s limits.
  • Reimburse an insured for expenses incurred to rent an auto for a reasonable period of time in order that the covered auto be repaired or replaced if the insured allows the Hanover to coordinate both the rental and repair within the company’s network of providers. Coverage is subject to daily coverage limits, with the total payment not to exceed $3,000.

The Total Household Rewards coverage benefits customers when they have both their home and automobile policies with the Hanover. (In the Midwest, watercraft and motor homes also apply). With the added benefits, the company will:

  • Waive one of the two policy deductibles when a policyholder has a single loss that affects both the auto and home. For instance, if a hailstorm damages both a car and the roof of an insured’s home, the customer would pay only the higher of the two deductibles if the loss is greater than the higher deductible.
  • Guarantee that it will not cancel and/or not renew a customer’s auto or homeowners policy as long as the insured meet various conditions, such as paying their premiums.

Enhancements are currently being rolled out and are expected in Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Virginia.
