Tom Godlasky, president and CEO of Aviva USA, was recently named among the most tech-savvy CEOs by Insurance & Technology magazine.

And no wonder.

The company he runs has invited current and prospective agents to visit Aviva USA’s private island in Second Life, a 3D virtual world on the Web. Aviva is the first life insurer to develop an island in Second Life for agent recruitment, education, and training. The insurer is evaluating how it might use its presence in this virtual world to benefit its customers and employees.

“Aviva understands that innovation and technology create competitive advantage,” Godlasky said. “Aviva’s island in Second Life strengthens our commitment to helping our agents and their customers build bright futures.”

Aviva’s island features free virtual gifts for visitors, a training center, and a Bright Futures Center, which includes dioramas of life stages and a wellness area featuring lifestyle tools and a private wellness toolbar for users to track Second Life and real world activities.

Life insurance and annuity agents can request an invitation to join Aviva in Second Life by calling 1-800-801-1486, option 1, extension 2396. Agents may download the software and create an avatar at Second Life. There is no fee for registering an account or participating at the site.

“Second Life provides Aviva with a rich environment for connecting with agents,” said Mark Heitz, president of sales and distribution for Aviva USA. “Aviva’s product innovations are aided by technology, and we think an island in Second Life is one way to use technology to help agents learn about Aviva and our products.”

Aviva’s Second Life property will be exhibited at the Million Dollar Round Table annual meeting in Toronto June 22–26.
