EHealth, Inc., in conjunction with the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), announced the launch of BusinessHSA during the National Small Business Summit in Washington, D.C.  BusinessHSA is an affordable online health insurance solution for small businesses that struggle to provide health insurance to their employees.

BusinessHSA works by permitting small businesses and employees to make contributions to employee’s individual health savings accounts (HSA) through payroll administration. Employees can manage their HSA online and pay for health-related expenses through an eHealth debit card.

"After ten years of working with employers, we know that most of them want to provide healthcare assistance for their employees, but fewer and fewer can afford a traditional group health insurance plan," said Gary Lauer, president and CEO of eHealth. "We designed BusinessHSA to open up possibilities -- to give these employers an innovative, easy and cost-effective alternative to group health insurance."

The president and CEO of NFIB, Todd Stottlemyer, offered his insight, "Since 1986, the National Federation of Independent Business' members have said that healthcare costs are their number one concern. BusinessHSA is one type of innovation that can help small businesses deal with the burden of increasing healthcare costs and stay competitive in hiring and retaining valued employees."

An estimated 47 million Americans are without health insurance and approximately 60% of them are either self-employed or working for a small business. For years, eHealth and NFIB have sought to find a resolution to offer affordable health insurance to this large group of workers.

"We are especially pleased to release BusinessHSA in conjunction with NFIB, a long-time partner," added Lauer. "NFIB has a respected history of effectively advocating for the concerns of small business owners, with a special interest in new, affordable healthcare solutions."
