AHIP’s Health Care Reform Proposals Could Reduce Spending by $145 Billion

Seven years from now, the United States could reduce total health care spending by $145 billion and improve the quality of patient care if the plan proposed by America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP; located in Washington, D. C.) is implemented.

 

New Bill Lets Veterans in Delaware Get Care within the State

A new bill in Delaware means more veterans will get the surgeries they need within Delaware’s Veteran Administration hospital. The new bill, Senate Bill 269, addresses Delaware’s surgeon shortfall at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Elsmere. The current shortage is requiring patients to travel to VA centers in nearby states like Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Americans need to force themselves to make a list.

Research from the DC Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking (DISB) and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) shows that many Americans are not thoroughly prepared to handle the effects of a disaster. That preparation begins with a simple list—an inventory of their possessions.

Hoping to prove that federal legislation to regulate credit history scores isn’t necessary, Rep. George Keiser (R-N.D.), secretary of the National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL), testified to members of a U.S. House Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations in Washington, D. C. that an NCOIL insurance scoring model act provides a critical balance between consumer and other interests.

 

NAIFA Board of Trustees Says Yes to OII

After a thorough study of insurance regulatory reform proposals, the Board of Trustees of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) has endorsed the concept of the creation of a Federal Office of Insurance Information (OII).  This new office would be within the U.S. Department of Treasury.  The responsibility of OII would be to advise the Secretary of the Treasury on domestic and international insurance policy matters.
