Study Shows Dip in Florida Workers’ Comp Claims a One-Time Occurrence

Reforms made a few years ago in Florida to workers compensation claims did in fact reduce costs, but just for one year.

“Monitoring 2003 Reforms in Florida: CompScope™ Benchmarks, 8th Edition,” a new study by the Workers Compensation Research Institute (WCRI), shows that workers’ comp costs per claim in Florida decreased in 2004, following reforms enacted in 2003, but the trend did not continue in 2005.

The Allstate Foundation has selected Laura Marchetti as its first Parent Activist of the Year winner. Marchetti’s efforts to prevent traffic-related youth deaths in her home state of Florida stood out from the competition.

Legislature Fails to Reform Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund

For now, the hurricane insurance tax issue in Florida has been tabled.

The state legislature adjourned earlier this month without addressing the tax issue. Instead, legislators passed additional regulatory measures that, in the opinion of the American Insurance Association (AIA), continue a series of legislation in recent years that discourage national companies from expanding their writings in Florida.
 

Prudential Foundation Honors Florida Teen as One of America’s Top Youth Volunteers

A teenager from Miami Gardens, Florida, was named one of America’s top ten youth volunteers for 2008 in a ceremony at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in addition to receiving a national Prudential Spirit of Community Award for her outstanding volunteer community service.
