BOSTON — John Hancock Life Insurance Company announced it will enhance its long-term care underwriting program by expanding the use of a dementia screening tool called the Minnesota Cognitive Acuity Screen (MCAS), which was developed and statistically validated by scientists and physicians for Nation's CareLink, a leading provider of turn-key underwriting, underwriting support, and claims services. By using MCAS and contracting with Nation's CareLink to administer the test, the accuracy of underwriting is significantly improved and the time needed to issue a policy is reduced. Hancock already has been using the MCAS to help identify early symptoms of dementia with long-term care insurance applicants aged 40-69, and now also will use it to test ages 70 and older. The MCAS is flexible, able to be administered over the phone or in a personal interview by a registered nurse who is part of Nation's CareLink national network.
