Manulife USA launches wealth-planning tool

In its efforts to provide financial advisors with resources to help clients, The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company U.S.A, or Manulife USA, introduces a new wealth-transfer planning sales tool kit. The kit provides offers a variety of techniques with which advisors can utilize to help their clients arrange for the transfer of their wealth. These techniques can help clients mitigate estate, income and capital gains taxes that can erode income and decrease transferred wealth.

Insurance professionals now have an alternative for property valuation in RSMeans and the launch of its Means CostWorks Valuator software program. This new software program employs RSMeans cost data to prepare replacement cost valuations of residences for homeowner property appraisal and insurance underwriting. The product is targeted to appraisal, underwriting and insurance general management professionals.
 

Agents look to broadband, but is it entirely secure?

A majority of independent insurance agencies access the Internet with a high-speed broadband Internet connection, but many are not equipped with a backup connection should their primary provider go down, according to the results of a recent online survey of about 1,300 independent agencies by Progressive. The survey indicates two-thirds of all agencies are using a business-grade broadband Internet connection, while only about 9 percent are using consumer-grade. The remaining 25 percent were unsure.

Insurers can cut costs with Script IQ prescription tool

Health plans can save up to nearly $70 a prescription by utilizing a new system that electronically sends physicians messages on the cost benefits of generics and then electronically creates and delivers customized prescription pads to them with available generic drugs already check-listed at the top. "It's one of the better tools we've seen to effectively communicate with health care providers," said Robert Taketomo of Health Net of California, a major health plan with more than 2.4 million members.
