By not recognizing the full potential of technology, insurance CEOs are hurting their business.

That’s the assessment of “Insurer CEOs on Technology: Property/Casualty Survey Results 2008,” a new report from research and advisory firm Novarica. The report contends CEOs tend to focus on the impact of technology on distribution and service instead of on the potential impact on product development and marketing.

Whether they prefer to use a computer or their cell phone, consumers can have access to their personal medical information wherever they are, 24/7, thanks to two new services from CapMed.

CapMed, a division of Bio-Imaging Technologies, has launched onlinePHR™ (Online Personal Health Record), a subscription-based service that lets consumers manage their personal records through any device with an Internet connection. Their records are protected by a secure ID and password.

More than 25 prominent national health care organizations are certified by CORE (Committee on Operating Rules for Information Exchange). But only one of those companies—Aetna—has required all of its administrative data-exchange vendors to be certified in compliance with CORE rules.
